Tow Spreader
Is there such a thing as a Sand Spreader for a reasonable price?
I am looking for something to help sand the driveway. I see lots of broadcast spreaders on the market, but none of them are intended for wet sand (the sand at the sand sheds for the public is always wet/damp) . I even wrote Agri-Fab to see if any of their products would handle spreading wet/damp sand and they said no, unless I went to a $800 spreader. The problem with the damp sand is that it will not fall towards the center where the little impeller is to catch it…so if you try to use it, the little impeller catches about 1/2 cup of sand and no more will fall towards it. I thought about trying a drop spreader, but appearently if there is a large pebble in the sand it will sieze it up, and possibly damage the unit. Anyone else have a good sander for about $150, and preferably tow behind?
I have to agree with Agri-Fab and reply with a no. Sand is heavy enough, wet sand is even tough to broadcast in the spreaders that go on the back of a dump truck.
There are compost spreaders but those are relatively expensive. New they are around $5000.
Obviously a typical fertilizer spreader will not work. I have a pretty long driveway with a decent slope and I just fling the sand as much as I can.
